Saving Hope

Saving Hope is the exciting tale of a teenager's adventures after she rescues a wild mustang and travels to a summer camp that brings new challenges.

Synopsis

Fourteen-year-old Hope Watkins is like any other girl her age. She loves hanging out with her best friend, Kat, reveling in the freedom of summer, and riding her horse, Chance, through the Oklahoma landscape. But one day, everything changes when she has a surprising run-in with a wild mustang while herding cattle with Kat.

After Hope frees the mare whose leg is wedged between a log and a massive rock, the mustang quickly disappears. Haunted by the mare’s cry of terror, Hope, with Kat as her riding companion, search for her a few days later and barely escape a dangerous encounter after finding the horse. Hope believes she has seen the last of the mustang and leaves for a Cowboy Camp soon after. But as new challenges arise that include escaping from wolves, being stranded, and trying not to strangle her camp enemy, now only time will tell if Hope can survive her latest difficulties or if she needs help from someone she never thought she’d see again.

Sneak Peak

Then it happened. Chance quivered beneath me, or at least, I thought it was him at first. But the shuddering became much too violent for a horse to make. I noticed pebbles cascading down a short cliff off to the far side of the valley. The flowers began to shake fervently, and I heard Chance let out a short grunt of surprise, and maybe a little panic. My brain was in slow-mo. What is going on? An alarmed whinny broke my haze. No horse I knew made that same sound. It sounded sharp and high-pitched, like the sound a fiddle makes when the musician let the bow slip and an extra note rang out off-key. I glanced around, trying to pinpoint where the sound had come from.

Crack.

There was a loud rumbling sound, then a squeal of alarm from the mysterious creature. I started to panic. I had to help the poor animal.

“Come on, Chance. We have to hurry,” I told him as I urged him toward the place where I heard the sounds. We rounded the corner of a gigantic boulder, and I gasped. What I saw in front of me was terrible.

“I’d love to go riding just for some fun, but that’s not the only reason, is it?” Kat asked, probably already knowing the answer. She knew me all too well.

Hope Watkins

I smiled. “And that’s why this summer is going to be better. I have a lot of adventure to catch up on.”

Jackie groaned again behind me where she sat on the edge of the fence. “You know, practicing when you’re that bad is pointless,” she told me.
